A Jonesboro resident has been sentenced to 10 years of probation and ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to forging a $25,000 U.S. Treasury check.
Court records reveal that Richestra L. Gibbs deposited a $25,230.22 U.S. Treasury check into his account at First Security Bank, located on Red Wolf Boulevard, in August 2024. Within three days, Gibbs reportedly withdrew $23,900 from his account. The same day, the U.S. Treasury Department flagged the check as fraudulent, leading to his arrest on one count of first-degree forgery.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Gibbs pleaded guilty to the Class B felony charge. Second Judicial Circuit Court Judge Randy Philhours sentenced him to 120 months of probation. As part of the sentencing, Gibbs must repay $15,985 in restitution to the bank and cover $785 in court costs and fees. He is required to make $50 monthly payments toward these amounts starting Oct. 1.
