The Batesville School District will dedicate the new Pioneer Park Veterans Memorial on Friday in a ceremony honoring alumni and community members who have served in the military since World War I. The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium on the Batesville High School campus, according to district officials.
The memorial pays tribute to veterans across the Pioneer community, including those who lost their lives in military service. Superintendent David Campbell emphasized its importance to the district, calling it “a meaningful tribute to the individuals and families whose service and sacrifice have impacted our community and country.”
The addition provides the school campus with a permanent space to recognize veterans and preserve the stories tied to what the district refers to as Pioneer Nation. Community members, veterans, students, alumni, and other supporters are invited to attend the dedication ceremony.
The project was privately funded, with contributions from alumni, families of alumni, Batesville High School staff, corporate sponsors, and other community members. The memorial was designed by Bo Boykin, a 1967 graduate of Batesville High School, and Randy Palculict of Jackson Brown Palculict Architects. It was built by Nabholz through donations made to Pioneer Park Veterans Memorial, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
