Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) is welcoming students back for the new school year with a range of activities and support services aimed at fostering community and academic success.
One of the first opportunities for students to engage with campus life is the activities fair, which continues Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement Christy Keirn explained that the fair offers students the chance to explore various student organizations, including clubs for bass fishing, chess, and e-sports.
In addition to extracurriculars, ASUMH has several resources designed to assist students who may face challenges during the school year. These include a food pantry that provides free food and a clothing boutique offering professional attire for job interviews or employment. Keirn emphasized the importance of these programs, especially as the college welcomes students from 14 states this year.
"The community has been instrumental in supporting these resources," Keirn noted, specifically referencing contributions to the food pantry, clothing boutique, and emergency funds for students. One notable program is Blaze Bucks, which provides meals to students in need. Community members interested in contributing can contact the college or Student Activities Coordinator Ashley Berg to offer support.
Another popular resource is The Alcove, an on-campus dining facility. Open to both students and the public, it provides daily specials at affordable prices and attracts visitors from the broader community.
