A local family is reaching out to the community for help recovering a treasured family heirloom that was mistakenly donated. Morgan Reed says a family member unintentionally gave away a handmade dress to the Almost New store, located at 563 Water Street in Batesville.
The dress, crafted in the 1970s by Reed’s great-grandmother, Mae Bell Sisk, holds deep sentimental value. It has been worn by every child in the family since its creation. The garment is made of a woven tapestry fabric, featuring a nutcracker pattern on the front and a rougher, unfinished texture on the back.
Sisk was well-known in the area for her sewing skills. Among her projects was a set of drapes she made for the local post office when it first opened. Her husband, Boyce Sisk, spent his career there and later retired from the same facility.
“My mother and I are absolutely heartbroken,” Reed said in a statement. “Please, please help us recover this heirloom dress.”
