The Jasper School District is taking heightened precautions following a potential threat that prompted a search of the campus Monday evening. Superintendent Kim Liggett reported that the district was made aware of a concerning message regarding the Jasper campus on Tuesday.
Upon learning of the potential threat, district officials alerted law enforcement and implemented precautionary measures. A thorough search of the campus was conducted Monday night, with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office employing a bomb-detection K-9 to assist in the investigation. No evidence of a bomb or explosive device was discovered, authorities confirmed.
As part of continued safety measures, law enforcement will have an increased presence on the Jasper campus throughout Tuesday. Superintendent Liggett assured families, students, staff, and the community that the district is working closely with law enforcement to address the situation and prioritize safety.
