The City of Mountain Home is accepting applications for a recreation program coordinator to oversee sports and outdoor recreation programs within the Parks and Recreation Department. This full-time, Grade 12, non-exempt position offers a starting wage of $19.50 per hour and is based at the Aquatic Center. The application will remain open until the position is filled.
The coordinator is responsible for planning and managing recreation programs for residents of all ages. The role involves creating partnerships with local schools, businesses, and community organizations, as well as meeting with public groups to promote activities. Key responsibilities include managing the department's master calendar and reservation system, designing social media content, maintaining the Parks and Recreation section of the city website, and supervising daily park and field operations, including janitorial and maintenance tasks during events.
Additional duties include writing grant proposals, securing sponsorships and donations, managing vendor contracts, recruiting and training volunteers, and preparing operational, sponsorship, and statistical reports. The coordinator also provides input on the department’s budget.
Applicants must hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of two years of training or work experience in parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, natural resources, or a related field. Experience planning and promoting recreation programs, as well as working with the public and youth, is required. Candidates need to be at least 18 years old, possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license, and pass a criminal background check.
Selected candidates must complete several certifications within specified timeframes after hiring. These include first aid and CPR certification within 90 days, mandated reporter training within six months, and American Canoe Association certification alongside wilderness first aid training within one year.
