The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB) is launching a new “HyFlex” course delivery model this fall, providing more flexibility for students to manage their attendance and coursework. Beginning with the fall 2026 semester, students will have the option to attend classes face-to-face, join live sessions online, or complete assignments on their own time. The model allows students to switch between these options as their schedules necessitate, even on a week-to-week basis.
The HyFlex format combines elements of traditional in-person learning, live remote participation, and asynchronous self-paced study. It accommodates students navigating work, family responsibilities, or other demands. Under this approach, students enrolled in a single course can choose how to engage with the material without being locked into one method for the entire semester.
“This is about helping students succeed by meeting them where they are,” said Blayne Stewart, UACCB’s dean of learning and communications. “Students have jobs, families, and other responsibilities outside of school. HyFlex gives them more control over how they stay engaged in their courses. They can attend on campus, join live remotely, or work asynchronously when it suits them best.”
The rollout of HyFlex courses coincides with an expanded partnership between UACCB and the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM), which is establishing a new campus-within-a-campus at UACCB this fall. The partnership will allow students at UACCB to pursue four-year bachelor's degrees locally without the need to transfer to another institution. These UAM degree programs at UACCB will also use the HyFlex model.
“Our students can now continue their education beyond an associate’s degree right here in Batesville, while balancing their other life commitments,” Stewart added.
