A 35-year-old Calico Rock man, Cameron Baker Jr., is facing federal drug trafficking charges and has reached an agreement to enter a guilty plea, according to court records. Baker also has pending state drug charges in Baxter County.
His attorney had previously filed a motion to suppress evidence in the federal case, which had been scheduled for a hearing on August 13. However, before the hearing could take place, the motion was withdrawn. Court filings indicate that Baker, through his legal counsel, has agreed to plead guilty as part of a deal with the U.S. Attorney's Office. A date for the formal plea hearing has not yet been set.
Baker, along with his wife, 24-year-old Hannah Bray (also known as Hannah Smolek), 21-year-old Kadence Martin, and 20-year-old Carson Grass, is accused of involvement in drug-related activities, including the possession of a significant quantity of methamphetamine. In Arkansas, drug trafficking is classified as a Class Y felony, the most severe criminal classification in the state short of capital offenses. Penalties for a Class Y felony can include up to life in prison.
Court documents detail that Baker and his wife were living on property reported to have been paid for in advance, with rent covered for two months. Further logistical details surrounding the case have not been disclosed.
As of now, federal court records do not indicate when Baker’s formal guilty plea will be entered.
