A Newport man died Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 69 near Newark, officials said.
The Arkansas State Police (ASP) identified the victim as 80-year-old Wilfred Conditt. According to a crash report, the incident occurred at 9:23 a.m. on Aug. 21 while Conditt was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer northbound on Highway 69/69B in Independence County.
Investigators reported that Conditt’s vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled up an embankment, became airborne, and overturned. The report noted that weather conditions were clear and the road surface was dry at the time of the crash.
ASP confirmed that Conditt’s next of kin have been notified. No additional information about the incident has been released at this time.
