A man identified as a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was arrested in Carroll County following a traffic stop, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
On August 16, a sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle traveling 74 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone on Highway 62 East. During the traffic stop, the driver failed to provide identification, prompting further investigation. Authorities identified the driver as Louis Fernando Reyes Vieyra, who law enforcement described as being affiliated with the CJNG, a prominent and violent Mexican cartel.
The sheriff’s office stated that Vieyra is considered a terrorist with outstanding international warrants and multiple Interpol alerts related to murders in Mexico. However, during the traffic stop, he was cited for speeding and driving without a license.
Other passengers in the vehicle were released at the scene, while Vieyra was taken into custody and initially transported to the Carroll County Detention Center. He was later transferred into federal custody, the sheriff’s office confirmed.
Details regarding additional charges or extradition proceedings have not been disclosed at this time.
