Newport, Ark. — Students at Newport High School were dismissed early on Wednesday following a power outage affecting parts of Jackson County.
According to school district officials, students were released between 11:45 a.m. and noon due to the disruption. While Newport Elementary School continues to have power, it will remain on its regular schedule.
The Entergy Arkansas outage map indicated that 1,002 customers in the county were without power as of 11:40 a.m. The utility company stated they are investigating the cause of the outage and estimate power will be restored around 1 p.m.
