The city of Batesville’s newest skate park has already been subject to over two dozen instances of graffiti, despite not yet officially opening, the Batesville Parks Department announced on Monday.

According to park officials, upwards of 25 pieces of graffiti have been discovered across the facility. While the artwork itself was described as showcasing clear talent and creativity, officials emphasized that vandalism cannot be condoned, regardless of its content.

“Spray painting, drawing, etc., on unauthorized spaces takes away from a project that our entire community has worked hard to build,” the department stated.

Parks and Recreation officials encouraged those responsible for the graffiti to channel their artistic skills into legal and constructive outlets rather than defacing public property.

The skate park, which has been a highly anticipated project in the area, represents a significant effort by the community, and officials expressed hope that it will remain a welcoming space for all residents upon its formal opening. Further details about potential security measures or plans to address the graffiti have not been shared.

Residents who may know any additional information about the graffiti or who wish to assist in the facility's upkeep are encouraged to reach out to city officials or utilize local art programs to guide young talent in the community toward positive artistic expressions.
