A Missouri man has been sentenced to five years of probation following a cross-state domestic incident earlier this year that culminated in his arrest in Arkansas.
On Monday, Aug. 17, Devin Dwayne Browning of Rector, Arkansas, pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree domestic assault and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle in the 36th Judicial Circuit Court in Doniphan, Missouri. Judge John Shock handed down the concurrent five-year probation sentences, according to the court's sentencing order.
As part of his probation conditions, Browning is required to complete 50 hours of community service, serve 60 days in the Ripley County Jail under "shock detention," and pay all associated court costs and fees.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 10, when the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas was alerted about a "rolling domestic" situation. The Doniphan Police Department reported that the incident began in Ripley County, Missouri, before progressing into Clay County.
Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole stated that Browning was pursuing his ex-girlfriend, who had her two children in her vehicle. He reportedly attempted to force the vehicle off the road multiple times. "At one point, the male subject got the lady stopped and can be heard hitting the vehicle with his hands, trying to get in," Cole explained.
The pursuit continued onto Highway 328 near the Arkansas town of Success. Browning eventually turned onto County Road 195 before a deputy intercepted and arrested him on County Road 178.
The case, which involved agencies from both Missouri and Arkansas, underscores the ongoing coordination between law enforcement in neighboring states to address cross-border incidents.
