As students return to the Flippin School District on Wednesday, Superintendent Kelvin Hudson highlighted the district’s preparations, which include investments in facilities, new leadership, and a focus on key academic programs such as nursing and sports medicine.
Hudson reported that district staff have worked throughout the summer on maintenance, remodeling, and other campus improvements to get schools ready for the year ahead. A focal point continues to be the district’s nursing and sports medicine program, which Hudson described as a growing area of interest for students from both within and outside the district.
In addition to these efforts, the district is preparing to implement literacy standards associated with the recently enacted LEARNS Act. Measures include early intervention strategies, tracking student progress, and supporting those not meeting growth expectations. Reading educators in the third and fourth grades have completed master teacher training, according to Hudson, who also stressed the significance of parental involvement in student success.
New infrastructure and leadership are also part of the district’s strategy for the 2023–2024 academic year. An agricultural barn has been added to campus facilities, and the district has appointed new principals for its high school and elementary school. Hudson noted that administrators have spent the summer developing a vision tailored to the diverse needs of students.
The district is also expanding its offerings to accommodate various types of learners, including virtual school and homeschool students. Hudson emphasized the district's commitment to serving as an extension of the community and responding to local needs.
"Our goal is to help students discover their strengths, provide them with the support required, and prepare them for what comes next," Hudson said.
Classes in the Flippin School District begin Wednesday, marking the start of another year of growth and opportunity for students and staff.
