Batesville, Ark. — More than 25 instances of graffiti have been discovered at the new skate park under construction at Riverside Park, according to Batesville Parks and Recreation. The park, which is set to open in December, remains unfinished.
In a statement posted on social media, the department said the graffiti was not inappropriate in nature and noted the talent of those responsible, but emphasized that the acts constituted vandalism.
“Spray painting, drawing, etc. on unauthorized spaces takes away from a project that our entire community has worked hard to build,” the statement read.
The department added it would like to see individuals channel their creativity into positive and legal outlets rather than vandalizing public property.
Batesville Parks and Recreation urged the community to help maintain city parks as “clean, fresh, and inviting for everyone.”
The department is encouraging residents to stay vigilant and support efforts to protect public spaces.
