Ash Flat Mayor Larry Fowler announced that the city's cooling center, located in the community building on Arnhart Street near the library, is now open to provide relief from the heat. The center will remain open through Monday.
In Horseshoe Bend, a cooling center is also available in the community building at 3 Club Road. The facility is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
These centers aim to offer a safe, air-conditioned environment for residents affected by the ongoing extreme temperatures. The openings come as high temperatures continue to pose risks to public health, particularly for vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions.
City officials encourage anyone in need of relief from the heat to take advantage of these resources and to stay hydrated and vigilant during periods of extreme weather.
