A 19-year-old man from Walnut Ridge was killed Monday night in a crash involving a semi-truck, according to Arkansas State Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 67 and 67B in Walnut Ridge. Investigators say a northbound Chevrolet, driven by 22-year-old Carlos Sifuentes of Walnut Ridge, was attempting to enter Highway 67 from 67B when it pulled into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer.
The semi-truck collided with the left side of the Chevrolet, causing both vehicles to skid approximately 310 feet south before coming to a stop on the northbound shoulder of Highway 67.
Sifuentes sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment. His passenger, 19-year-old Landon Ellis, was pronounced dead at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge due to injuries sustained in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation by state authorities.
