Firefighters in Gassville responded to a structure fire on Kirkland Street Saturday afternoon in sweltering conditions exceeding 100 degrees. Gassville Fire Chief Mike Glotzl stated that his department was dispatched to the scene at 5:30 p.m. When the first fire truck arrived, heavy flames were visible on the front side of the residence.
The home’s only occupant at the time of the fire, the homeowner's daughter, was able to escape without injury, according to Chief Glotzl. The extreme heat, both from the fire and the weather, posed additional challenges for firefighters working to control the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Glotzl noted. Responding departments included the Gassville Fire Department, as well as mutual aid assistance from the Cotter Fire Department, Cotter/Gassville Rural Fire Department, Midway Fire Department, Mountain Home Fire Department, and Flippin Fire Department.
No injuries were reported among the firefighters or responders. Additional details about the extent of the damage were not immediately available.
