A Bono man pleaded guilty on Friday to theft of property in connection with unauthorized transfers using a woman’s Cash App account.

James Brian Ferguson, 42, was sentenced to 48 months of a suspended imposition of sentence after admitting to one count of theft of property-credit/debit card or account number, a Class D felony, according to court records. Prosecutors dropped additional charges of fraudulent use of a credit or debit card and theft of property less than $1,000 under the terms of the sentencing order.

Jonesboro police launched an investigation on May 10 after a woman reported a theft involving her credit and debit cards. Authorities said Ferguson visited the victim’s home before stealing $800 from her purse as well as her debit card information, an affidavit states.

The woman told police that Ferguson used her DoorDash-linked debit card to transfer $15 to a Cash App account under the name "jamesferg." He also attempted to transfer additional funds from her Cash App card to his account and tried to use the card for Uber transactions, according to investigators.

When police attempted to speak with Ferguson, he missed scheduled interviews. Arkansas State Police ultimately located and arrested him on June 14, booking him into the Craighead County Detention Center.

Court records show Ferguson's guilty plea resolved the case without a trial.
