The North Arkansas Electric Cooperative (NAEC) has not reported any system issues due to the ongoing heat wave, a situation described as potentially historic for the region. Byron Coleman, a representative of the cooperative, stated that weather models indicate the area may be experiencing heat levels not seen since the summer of 1980.

With temperatures expected to remain high through the weekend and into next week, energy demand is a significant concern. Coleman emphasized the importance of curbing electricity use, particularly during peak load hours, which occur between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to delay using high-energy appliances such as dishwashers and clothes dryers until cooler parts of the day.

August typically sees one of the highest average electric bills of the year due to increased use of air conditioning and other cooling systems. For those facing challenges in paying their electric bill, the cooperative offers assistance through its customer service representatives.

The cooperative is closely monitoring the situation and continues to provide access to resources for residents. Community members are urged to remain cautious, conserve energy where possible, and prioritize their safety amid the severe heat.
