Fulton County residents are being urged to stay vigilant after reports of armyworm activity have surfaced from various parts of the county.

According to Fulton County Extension Agent Anna Barnett, the agency has received multiple calls about the presence of the invasive pest. Armyworms, which are the larval stage of a moth species, can quickly inflict significant damage on pastures and other vegetation. Although they are small and often difficult to spot, their impact can be considerable if left unchecked.

To identify armyworms, Barnett advises residents to inspect soil and grass closely, as the pests often blend into their surroundings. Early detection is critical, as armyworms are capable of destroying large areas of vegetation in a short time.

Residents concerned about managing an infestation are encouraged to contact their local county extension offices. These offices can provide practical advice and resources tailored to specific situations.
