The Baxter County Airport is set to welcome aviation enthusiasts and community members for the inaugural Crosswind Classic on Saturday, August 29. The event will feature a lineup of attractions, including general aviation and experimental aircraft displays, historic warbirds, an aviation poker run, live music, a car show, a kid-friendly zone, and a variety of food trucks.

Taylor Carmichael, Director of Baxter County Airport, expressed excitement about the event, calling it a unique opportunity to bring the community together and highlight the airport's ongoing developments. "This is really exciting for Baxter County," Carmichael said in an interview, citing the airport's recent growth. Over $2.5 million in improvements have been invested in the facility in the past few years, funding the construction of additional hangars and increasing its appeal to aviation businesses. Looking ahead, the airport plans to expand its runway, potentially opening the door to commuter flight services.

The day begins at 8 a.m. with a coffee-and-donut social hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 775 at Bayird Aviation FBO. Pilots participating in the poker run will follow with a pre-event safety briefing. Pilots must pre-register for the poker run at a cost of $30, which includes a meal token for use at one of the food trucks. Static aircraft display participants are also required to pre-register and pay a $25 fee. Both admission and parking for the general public are free of charge.

Bill Holland, president of the Crosswind Classic, credits the community's contributions and enthusiasm for making the event a reality. Meanwhile, Rylan Wynn, an Air Force veteran and current airport team member, highlighted the family-friendly atmosphere that organizers are striving to create.
