Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) plans to announce a significant donation and a new initiative during a public event on Monday aimed at making a tangible impact on regional college attendance rates.

The announcement is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17, in the Dale Bumpers Great Hall at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center, located on ASUMH’s main campus in Mountain Home.

Though the college has not disclosed specific details about the donation or initiative ahead of the event, officials indicated that the planning process for the announcement moved forward quickly this past week. Discussions and agreements with all involved parties were still being finalized as of Friday.

The Vada Sheid Community Development Center, often referred to as "The Sheid," is the largest building on the ASUMH campus. Opened in September 2010, the facility was named in honor of the late Vada Webb Sheid, who holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve in both the Arkansas House of Representatives and State Senate. Sheid played a key role in securing the funding that established the college in Mountain Home.

Community members, students, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend Monday’s event, which may provide greater insight into how ASUMH plans to further its mission of fostering educational opportunities in northern Arkansas.
