Amid persistently dry weather and an increased risk of wildfires, Marion County and the city of Flippin have enacted burn bans, adding to a growing list of restrictions across northern Arkansas.
Marion County’s countywide burn ban became effective immediately, joining Fulton, Izard, and Stone counties, which were already under similar restrictions. Officials in the city of Flippin, located within Marion County, announced Tuesday morning that a fire ban is now in place for all residents.
In Baxter County, multiple cities, including Mountain Home, Salesville, and Norfork, were already under burn bans prior to Flippin’s new announcement.
The bans aim to protect public safety and assist first responders by reducing the potential for preventable wildfires, which pose significant risks to both the community and emergency personnel. Current conditions make it easier for fires to ignite and spread quickly, creating dangerous situations.
As a result, officials urge the public to avoid outdoor burning of brush, leaves, or yard debris. Barrel burning, recreational fires, and fireworks are also prohibited during burn bans.
Authorities will monitor conditions to determine how long burn bans will remain necessary and will lift restrictions when it is safe to do so.
