A Mountain View woman is facing several charges after what began as a routine traffic stop allegedly escalated into a physical altercation with a deputy and her ex-husband.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Jessi Miller was pulled over near Angler’s Restaurant because her vehicle lacked license plates. A deputy informed Miller she would only receive a warning for the infraction.
However, officials say Miller became agitated, began shouting, and even called the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line to complain. After yelling from the parking lot for the deputy to “just give [her] the warning and let [her] go,” Miller allegedly grew increasingly upset while the officer worked on paperwork in his patrol car.
The affidavit states Miller began screaming at her ex-husband, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and other bystanders nearby. When the deputy approached Miller and instructed her to place her hands behind her back, she reportedly refused and began running around her vehicle to evade him. At that point, the deputy informed her she was under arrest for disorderly conduct.
Miller then fled from the scene on foot but was intercepted on a bridge, according to the affidavit. When the deputy threatened to use a Taser—though his device was reportedly out of service due to a battery issue—Miller reportedly challenged him. Authorities say she resisted arrest by flailing her arms, striking the deputy, and attempting to kick him in the groin. The struggle continued as the deputy placed one handcuff on Miller, during which she allegedly grabbed her ex-husband’s leg and bit him when he attempted to assist law enforcement.
Miller eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. She was transported to the Stone County jail, while the deputy was advised to seek medical attention for injuries to his hands.
Miller faces charges including felony second-degree battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, fleeing on foot, disorderly conduct, operating a vehicle without a license plate, and having no proof of insurance. She has since posted a $5,000 bond.
