A Jonesboro woman is facing multiple charges after police say she fired a handgun at her girlfriend, with the bullet striking a nearby home.
Nataki Orr Harris, 46, was arrested on Aug. 12 following the shooting incident in the 200 block of South Main Street, according to an affidavit cited in court documents. Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Harris with aggravated assault on a family or household member and a terroristic act on an occupiable structure.
According to police, the incident began when the two women were arguing. The victim told investigators she had initially fired a shot into the air to encourage Harris to leave but then returned her weapon to her residence. However, she said Harris did not leave and later appeared with a handgun.
Detective Bruce Wright stated in the affidavit that the victim recognized the weapon as her own, describing it as red. The victim reported that as she ran away from Harris, Harris fired the gun at her.
Surveillance video from nearby cameras did not capture the shooting itself, but investigators reviewed footage showing the victim crouching and running across the street while looking behind her, Wright said.
While processing the scene, police were alerted by a neighbor across the street that a bullet had penetrated their home. Wright confirmed it had entered the living room and struck an interior wall.
Officers on the scene located the victim about a block away and contacted Harris in a parking lot near where the shooting occurred. Harris was arrested and transported to the Craighead County Detention Center. She remains in custody on a $50,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 30.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
