The 17th annual First Security Bank Bomberfest will launch the Mountain Home athletic season Friday evening at Bomber Stadium, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and featuring activities for all ages. The event, an annual tradition in the community, encourages residents to gather in support of local students and athletes.
Mountain Home Athletic Director Mitch Huskey emphasized Bomberfest’s importance as a celebratory start to the school year and athletic calendar. “It’s always a great way to get everything going,” Huskey said.
The event will include exhibits from various local businesses and organizations, showcasing their Bomber spirit with booths set up around the stadium. First Security Bank Marketing and Business Development Director Summerlynn Scalf expressed excitement about hosting the event again. "It’s a fun way to engage with our students and families outside the office," Scalf stated.
Scheduled activities include the Golden Football Hunt, starting at 6:30 p.m., and presentations highlighting the wide array of athletic programs offered at Mountain Home Schools. According to Athletic Director Huskey, the showcases provide attendees with an opportunity to see the full range of talent and dedication among student-athletes.
The evening’s entertainment will also feature a unique appearance by Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, who is set to fly over the stadium during the festivities.
Food enthusiasts will have the chance to enjoy the KTLO BBQ Challenge, a local favorite where grillmasters prepare their best ribs in hopes of impressing the judges. This year’s event will include a tribute to Coach Don Webb, a longtime rib judge remembered for his contributions to this community tradition.
In light of the recent heat in the Twin Lakes area, Huskey reassured attendees that there would be adequate relief from the weather. "We’ll make sure there are plenty of ways to cool down," he noted.
Instead of an admission fee, attendees are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food items, such as macaroni and cheese or containers of peanut butter. All contributions will benefit the Backpack Food 4 Kids Program, which supports Mountain Home Public Schools students in need.
Bomberfest serves not only as a showcase of school athletics but also as a unifying event for the Mountain Home community, bridging local pride and charitable purpose. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to attend and celebrate as the new school year gets underway.
