The Baxter County Sheriff’s Foundation, a private nonprofit supporting the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, has committed more than $100,000 for equipment, facility improvements, and new programs. According to information from the sheriff’s office, most of these projects are complete or in progress.
One highly visible project is the ongoing remodel of the front lobby at the sheriff’s administration building. The upgrade will double the number of clerical service windows for walk-in traffic from two to four, aiming to better serve the public. Additional improvements funded by the foundation include enhancements at the department’s firing range on Baxter County Road 69. These include installing new lighting and an automated moving target system. The Baxter County Road and Bridge Department assisted with the lighting installation, enabling more advanced training for deputies.
The foundation also prioritized technology and tools for investigative and fitness purposes. New crime scene mapping software and a laptop have been provided for investigators, while a treadmill was purchased for the department’s gym.
A significant investment is being made in two drug detection and tracking dogs for the department. The foundation is funding not only the purchase and training of the canines but also the construction of an on-site kennel and the conversion of patrol vehicles into canine units. The dogs are still in the acquisition phase and have not yet been assigned to duty.
Additionally, the foundation has allocated funds for a drone program to assist with investigations and search-and-rescue operations. This includes licensing and operator training, though the program is still under development and not yet operational.
The Baxter County Sheriff’s Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered with the Arkansas secretary of state. Led by a nine-member volunteer board, the foundation’s mission is to support the sheriff’s office and its employees. Board members are unpaid for their roles.
