WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. — A 19-year-old man from Walnut Ridge lost his life, and another individual was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening, authorities reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. on August 10 at the intersection of U.S. 67 and U.S. 67B, according to a preliminary fatal crash report from the Arkansas State Police.
Landon Ellis, 19, was a passenger in a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic that was heading north on U.S. 67B and attempting to merge onto U.S. 67 when it was struck by a southbound 2014 Freightliner, the report said. The Freightliner collided with the Sonic on its driver’s side.
Both vehicles skidded an estimated 310 feet south before coming to rest on the northbound shoulder of U.S. 67, investigators stated.
Ellis was pronounced dead following the crash. The vehicle’s driver, 22-year-old Carlos Sifuentes, also of Walnut Ridge, sustained injuries and was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment.
Conditions at the time of the crash were described as clear with dry roadways.
The crash is being investigated by Sgt. Eric Wolf of the Walnut Ridge Police Department.
