Firefighters responded to a large grass fire threatening homes along Highway 117 west of Smithville on Monday afternoon, officials said.
The Imboden Fire Department was dispatched at 2:17 p.m., according to reports. Firefighters arriving at the scene identified the fire as a significant risk due to its proximity to a forest and quickly requested support from the Arkansas Forestry Division.
Crews from the Forestry Division joined efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading into the wooded area. No immediate reports of damage to homes were available, and authorities have not disclosed what might have caused the fire.
Highway 117 runs through rural areas of Lawrence County, where grass fires often pose risks during dry conditions. The incident underscores the importance of swift firefighter response to fires in proximity to residential and forested regions.
As of late Monday, officials had not issued further updates on the fire's status or any ongoing firefighting efforts.
