PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces multiple charges, including a felony, after police alleged he choked a woman during a domestic disturbance and destroyed her smartwatch to obstruct her communication.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Paragould Police Department responded to a reported domestic incident on Aug. 10 in the 1100 block of North 40th Street. At the scene, a woman told officers that her ex-boyfriend, identified as Ryan Flanrey, attacked her amid an argument.
Police documented visible injuries to the woman's lower lip and neck, including apparent finger marks. The woman reported that Flanrey grabbed her around the head and neck, at one point restricting her ability to breathe. She also alleged that he intentionally damaged her Samsung smartwatch to prevent her from reaching emergency services during the altercation.
Authorities located Flanrey, who was taken into custody. In a subsequent interview conducted on Aug. 11 at the Greene County Jail, Flanrey admitted to engaging in a physical altercation with the woman and placing his hands around her head, according to the affidavit. He also acknowledged intentionally breaking the smartwatch.
Flanrey now faces one count of aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony. Additionally, he has been charged with three Class A misdemeanors: third-degree domestic battery, first-degree criminal mischief, and first-degree interference with emergency communication.
Court records show Flanrey’s bond was set at $50,000, payable in cash or through a surety.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
