A Mountain Home man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to detonate an explosive at Baxter Health over pain medication and attempting to provoke officers into a gunfight. Gregory Allen Thompson, 60, was taken into custody Sunday evening, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Mountain Home Police Department.
Authorities were called to the hospital to respond to reports of an individual fighting with medical staff and making threats to bomb the facility. Hospital security informed officers that Thompson appeared intoxicated upon his arrival in the parking lot. Security also stated that a firearm fell from under Thompson’s leg as he exited his vehicle. The weapon was promptly secured by security personnel.
After the firearm was confiscated, Thompson allegedly asked the security officers if they wanted to engage in a gunfight, according to the affidavit. He reportedly continued to make threats, warning that he would blow up the hospital if a charge nurse did not provide him with the desired pain medication. When police officers arrived on the scene, Thompson allegedly suggested he was prepared to engage in a shootout with them. He is also said to have claimed that officers "could not handle him" and would be injured if they attempted to detain him.
Despite his threats, Thompson was taken into custody without incident. His vehicle was impounded, and he was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. He has been charged with felony terroristic threatening. Bond has been set at $5,000.
