PARAGOULD, Ark. – The Paragould Police Department and Fire Department are squaring off in a friendly yet vital competition to see which team can rally more blood donors. The event, known as the Battle of the Badges, is being held at the Paragould Community Center and aims to address a critical need for donations.

The effort is being organized in partnership with the Red Cross, whose representatives emphasize the importance of every single blood donation. Paul Pierrom, a Red Cross ambassador, highlighted the urgency of the situation.

“We need blood very badly right now,” Pierrom said. “The supply is real low. Disasters like the flooding and the wildfires have caused a lot of problems with our supply.”

Donated blood plays a crucial role in saving lives, helping patients in surgeries, those injured in accidents, and individuals battling severe illnesses. Organizers say the ultimate goal is less about departmental rivalry and more about ensuring the community has access to these lifesaving resources.

Though only one department will claim the title of winner, both groups—and all participating donors—are contributing to a cause that could make a real difference in emergency medical care. Donations collected during the event will help replenish critical blood stock in a time of national need.

The Battle of the Badges blood drive showcases the community’s capacity for teamwork and its commitment to stepping up in times of crisis.
