JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man accused of breaking into a home, stealing money, and threatening the resident has been placed on a $100,000 bond.
Larry Lywayne Hunter is charged with residential burglary, theft of $1,000 or less, and harassment, as shown in court records. He appeared before Circuit Judge Tommy Fowler on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety, and a no-contact order was issued. The public defender’s office has been appointed to represent him.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police were called to a residence on North Patrick Street on June 22. The homeowner reported that someone had entered through a rear window while she was at work and taken money from a bedroom.
The alleged victim told investigators that Hunter sent her text messages admitting to the break-in. One message reportedly stated, "Just so you know I went thru your bedroom window and looked around for him," implying Hunter was searching for another man he claimed owed him money.
Police said Hunter sent additional messages acknowledging the burglary and warning the homeowner not to contact authorities. Video footage reportedly placed Hunter in the area at the time these messages were sent.
Handwritten notes in court filings indicate that Hunter was on probation, out on bond for a separate matter, and has a history of residential burglary and failing to appear in court.
Residential burglary is a Class B felony in Arkansas, punishable by five to 20 years in prison. Theft of $1,000 or less and harassment are Class A misdemeanors, each carrying a penalty of up to one year in jail.
Hunter is scheduled to appear in court again at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 30 at the Craighead County Courthouse.
Authorities remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
