In a recent discussion on the Health Matters podcast, Dr. Kaushalendra “Bobby” Mani Tripathi, an internal medicine resident at White River Health, emphasized the value of addressing the root causes of depression through holistic care strategies.
Speaking with podcast host Joel Williams, Tripathi shared insights from his paper, “How We Perceive Depression,” and underscored the limitations of relying solely on pharmaceutical solutions for mental health care. “Medicines can only get you so far,” he explained, cautioning that while medications may provide immediate relief, they can lead to dependence and fail to offer lasting recovery.
Tripathi advocated for integrating therapies such as meditation, yoga, talk therapy, and the establishment of strong support systems into treatment plans. He argued that these approaches could foster deeper, more sustainable recovery compared to medication alone.
The conversation underscores a growing recognition among healthcare professionals of the need for multifaceted approaches to combat depression and improve overall mental health outcomes.
