FutureFuel Corp., a major employer in Independence County, reported $11.4 million in net income for the second quarter of 2026, a sharp rebound from a $14.2 million net loss during the same period last year. The Batesville-based producer of specialty chemicals and biofuels announced the results on Monday.
The company, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker FF, also reported diluted earnings of 25 cents per share for the quarter. Adjusted EBITDA, a measure of core profitability that excludes interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, reached $11.8 million, compared to a loss of $11.4 million in the second quarter of 2025.
Revenue climbed 120.7% to $78.7 million, up from $35.7 million the year prior. FutureFuel attributed the surge to higher production, improved revenue mix, and stronger pricing across its chemical and biofuel segments.
Revenue from the chemicals segment grew 55.5% to $25.8 million, with gross profit improving to approximately $5 million from $1.1 million last year. Plant utilization also rose to 65%, up from 54% in 2025.
In the biofuels segment, revenue increased by 178% to $52.9 million. Gross profit for biofuels reached $10.1 million, a significant turnaround from a $13.5 million loss in the same period last year. The company credited improvements to enhanced federal regulatory clarity, higher Renewable Fuel Standard volumes, better equipment utilization, and favorable market trends.
FutureFuel’s Chairman and CEO Roeland Polet highlighted the results as evidence of increased market demand, improved operational efficiency, and efforts to optimize production at its Batesville facility.
The company closed the quarter with $34.3 million in cash and cash equivalents and reported no borrowings under its revolving credit facility. FutureFuel also stated it expects positive adjusted EBITDA for the full year of 2026, excluding certain impacts related to derivatives and inventory valuations.
