JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro Public Schools bus carrying 10 students was struck by a dump truck during the first day of classes, officials said Wednesday.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. near the intersection of East Johnson Avenue and North Main Street, close to Bill’s Fresh Market, according to a statement from the Jonesboro Police Department.
Authorities say the dump truck, traveling northbound and loaded with gravel, clipped the left rear side of the bus before continuing without stopping. About an hour later, the truck’s driver returned to the site and spoke with a police officer.
Jonesboro Police Department Public Information Officer Sally Smith confirmed that none of the students or the bus driver were injured in the crash.
The police department did not provide immediate details about citations or charges related to the incident.
The school year’s opening day in Jonesboro saw minor delays for the students involved due to the traffic incident, but no further disruptions were reported.
