A new bridge over Crooked Creek in Boone County, designed to meet modern transportation needs and support the area’s growth, will officially open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 14, at 10 a.m.
The new Highway 65B Bridge in Harrison replaces the previous structure and features significant upgrades aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency. Improvements include wider travel lanes, a dedicated center turning lane, expanded sidewalks on both sides, and an updated traffic signal. According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), these enhancements will better accommodate current traffic demands and bolster long-term durability.
“This bridge represents a major investment in the safety and efficiency of our local transportation network,” said ARDOT Director Jared Wiley. “The wider lanes, turning lane, updated traffic signal, and expanded sidewalks will make a noticeable difference for everyone who uses this corridor.”
Built as part of a $10 million contract awarded to West Plains Bridge & Grading LLC, the project aligns with ARDOT’s broader effort to modernize key infrastructure across the state and promote regional mobility and economic development.
The ribbon-cutting will take place on the new bridge itself. Parking and shuttle service will be available at the Creekside Community and Aquatics Center, located at 515 South Spring Street in Harrison.
