A Missouri man convicted last week of cashing altered checks in two Missouri counties has been extradited to Baxter County to face forgery charges for a similar offense in Mountain Home.
Willie Thomas Clemmer Jr., 35, of Springfield, was transferred from the Ozark County Jail on Friday. This follows his court appearance on forgery and theft charges in both Ozark and Douglas counties earlier in the week. Sources indicate he was arrested in May after an indictment by a Douglas County grand jury. In Missouri, Clemmer pleaded guilty to one count of forgery as part of a plea agreement that resulted in other charges being dropped. He received a 10-year suspended sentence and was placed on five years of supervised probation, with his sentences in Ozark and Douglas counties to run concurrently.
According to court documents from the Mountain Home Police Department, Clemmer is accused of cashing an altered check for $3,378 at a Mountain Home branch of Century Bank on April 22. This reportedly followed stops earlier that day in Ava, Missouri, where he allegedly cashed a check for $2,878, and Theodosia, Missouri, where a $2,978 check was cashed. Total losses from the three checks reached $9,234.
Authorities allege that Clemmer took steps to avoid bank surveillance. In Theodosia, he reportedly parked near a food truck to remain out of view. In Mountain Home, he is said to have parked his car at Slim Chickens and then approached the bank on foot via the drive-thru.
Clemmer now faces one felony count of forgery in Baxter County. He remains in the Baxter County Detention Center with his bond set at $5,000.
Clemmer's criminal history extends beyond these incidents, court records show. He has five prior felony arrests in Oklahoma since 2010. Charges from those cases include domestic assault and battery by strangulation, stalking, escape from detention, possession of a controlled substance, and unauthorized use of a credit card.
