Students in the Cotter School District return to class Wednesday, marking the start of a new academic year and the debut of the district’s virtual academy. The new program, led by Director Keri Raycraft, offers students the option to take classes online, while also providing support to homeschooling families seeking educational resources without giving up their independence.
Superintendent Jayme Jones said the virtual academy aims to meet families “where they are” and give students the tools they need to achieve a quality education. Jones emphasized that incorporating technology to improve communication between the district and families remains a cornerstone of their efforts this year.
“Our goal is to provide options and ensure students have access to the best possible education, no matter their circumstances,” Jones said.
Despite its smaller size, Cotter School District continues to report positive test scores, according to Jones, reflecting its commitment to academic excellence. As the new school year begins, traditional classroom students will find no changes to morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up procedures. Volunteers from Entergy will assist staff in the car line Wednesday to help families adjust during the early days of the new term.
