The Yellville-Summit School District will welcome students back to class on Wednesday, marking the official start of the 2026-27 academic year. Superintendent Wes Henderson expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming term, highlighting preparations made to ensure a smooth start.
Ahead of the first day, the district hosted a Back to School Bash on Monday to help students connect with teachers and friends. Henderson called the event a success, noting the positive energy ahead of the new school year.
Parents dropping off their children should expect the district's established traffic patterns to remain in place, Henderson confirmed. He added that enrollment trends continue to be closely monitored as students settle into their routines.
This year will also bring significant developments for the district, with plans underway for the construction of a new auditorium. The project addresses a long-standing need, as the school’s original auditorium was shuttered in the early 1980s. While construction won’t begin immediately, Henderson said the entire school community is excited about the addition, which is expected to enhance student and community activities.
Henderson anticipates a "normal" first day and school year overall, expressing optimism about the months ahead.
Classes officially begin Wednesday at all Yellville-Summit campuses.
