LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas State University (ASU) System Board of Trustees convened in a special meeting Friday to approve a new systemwide strategic plan, adjustments to capital project budgets, and the sale of a residential property once used as the president’s residence.
ASU System President Todd Shields, presiding over his first meeting since assuming the role on July 1, introduced the strategic plan titled "Framework for the Future." The plan outlines updated mission statements, goals, and priorities designed to enhance the ASU System’s economic and educational impact on Arkansas. Shields expressed gratitude toward Trustee Gary Harpole and the task force that contributed to the plan’s development, stating, "We have a clear path for escalating our systemwide economic impact on Arkansas, and we’re going to get to work."
Among the approved resolutions, the board voted to update the budgets for several capital projects and to accept a contingent offer of $1,585,000 for the sale of a property located at 48 Chenal Circle in Little Rock. The sale price surpasses the appraised value of the property. Known as the McAdams House, the residence previously served as the home of the ASU System president. Instead of maintaining the property, a housing allowance will now be provided to President Shields as a cost-saving measure for the university system.
These decisions reflect ongoing strategic efforts by the ASU System to manage resources effectively and bolster its impact across the state.
