A grass fire near Highway 117 in Lawrence County brought an urgent response from the Imboden Fire Department and the Arkansas Forestry Division on Thursday afternoon.
The fire was first reported near 2326 Highway 117, approximately two miles west of Smithville, around 2:10 p.m., according to Lawrence County Sheriff Tony Waldrupe. Initially a small blaze, the fire quickly spread toward a nearby forest and prompted firefighters to call in additional assistance from the Forestry Division to help contain it.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire were ongoing as of 5 p.m. Thursday. Further updates on the situation were not immediately available.
Officials have not yet released details about the fire’s cause or whether any structures were threatened during the incident.
