A 22-year-old Jonesboro man is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center on a $150,000 bond following allegations that he opened fire on a south Jonesboro residence.
On Monday, Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Jametrius Thomas with a terroristic act on an occupiable structure and possession of a firearm by certain persons. Police also allege Thomas violated a no-contact order that had been served on him days before the incident.
According to an affidavit, officers were called to the scene on Fox Meadow Lane on July 26 after a report of shots fired. A victim told police that a white SUV entered the apartment complex and that a man got out of the vehicle. The victim confronted the occupants, asking them to leave. Shortly afterward, the victim reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from the roadway.
Detective Luke Lane said officers recovered three spent shell casings in the roadway directly in front of a home in the area. Investigators also discovered multiple bullet impacts to nearby residences and vehicles.
A witness later identified Thomas as being directly involved in the events leading up to the shooting. In a recorded interview, the witness stated that Thomas had initially been dropped off by an off-white Chevrolet Tahoe and was confronted by the victim. After leaving, Thomas reportedly returned moments later in the same vehicle, at which point the witness heard gunfire coming from the direction of the apartment complex.
Footage obtained from the scene corroborated the witness’s account, the affidavit stated.
On Aug. 10, police arrested Thomas at his residence and recovered a 9mm Glock handgun. Court records show Thomas is on probation and has a history of felony arrests for violent crimes. The affidavit also indicated he was in violation of a no-contact order issued on July 20 by district court.
Thomas is scheduled to appear in circuit court on Sept. 30.
