The Independence County Board of Equalization has officially begun its 2026 session. The board will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 2, to hear property tax assessment appeals from residents.
Residents who wish to schedule an appeal should contact the Independence County Clerk’s Office at 870-793-8828. Calls can be made Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The deadline to schedule an appointment is Thursday, Aug. 17.
The Board of Equalization is tasked with reviewing property tax assessment disputes and ensuring fair and equitable property taxation within the county. The upcoming meeting is an opportunity for residents to present their cases if they believe their property valuations are incorrect.
